Stress.

First, a word about the Boston Marathon. Hearing that news made me so sad, while at the same time being so proud and humbled to be a part of the running community. Whenever a tragedy like this happens, this quote always makes the rounds:

It's the truth. That's exactly what I'll tell Mylo.

I hope that these tragedies don't stop people from continuing to do the things they love - things like going to midnight showings of Batman or running the effing Boston Marathon. I have to wonder why people do things like this. Is it for the attention? Some kind of sadistic glory? Is it to create fear, so we paralyze ourselves? I suppose we'll never know for sure. That said, my thoughts are with the families of the people who were killed and injured.

Stress and your weight. It's not an awesome topic. You can read about all the stress I've been under here with my job and house and divorce and kid and shit. It's cray. Shit be CRAY.

Stress makes your body act like a little bitch. For me personally, my face breaks out like a pubescent teen. I also tend to gain weight. This time around though, I was doing the 30 day shred video every day and "training" for a half marathon, so I didn't gain weight. I just also didn't lose any. (Because by "training" I mean trying to run as much as possible because we signed up for this race 2 weeks ago.)

April 1 - 140 lbs

April 15 - 143 lbs
Those yoga pants are a size small.
I never thought my ass would be "small".

I started the shred on April 1 at 140 and today I weigh 143. Technically that's more than 140, but I consider that within the reasonable realm of fluctuation, and not really a "gain" because your weight goes up and down depending on what time it is, where you are in your cycle, when Mars transits Venus, and so on.

Dare I say that the 30ds is working...? I may weigh more, but I think my stomach is a little tighter now, and I know my arms are stronger. Homegirl can do the FUCK out of some push-ups. Real ones, too. None of that on-your-knees shit anymore. (For push-ups, you perverts.) Y'all, if you're doing the 30 day shred with me - put your half way pics up on Instagram! Tag #nerky30ds.

Flexbreak.
Welcome to the gun show.

So, stress. I haz it. I don't have any solid advice about eating when you're stressed. I read that the reason people gain stress-related weight is because they tend to eat more because they are focused on other things rather than calories and portions and amount consumed and shit, so they tend to overeat. Plus, fried chicken tastes way better than kale. It's just a fact. It's called "comfort food" for a reason.

Personally, my diet consists of a ton of fruit every day, so for me stress eating was a lot of this:

Would you like some cereal with your blueberries?

That was my dinner one night last week. Mylo had a kiwi and a banana and probably some pretzels. Cooking is exhausting and sometimes I just. don't. wanna. At least we're eating fruit and not cheetos or some shit.

So there are my half way pictures for the shred. Weight-wise, I'm not where I'd like to be. Body-wise, I'm also not where I'd like to be, but I do see improvements. How are y'all doing with the shred? Hopefully all we need is another 2 weeks of JM giving us the stink eye through the tv screen to look like rock stars.

And of course, if you'd like daily "motivational" emails, email me at meg(at)nerkyblog(dot)com and I'll hit that shit.

  1. I'm still doing the push-ups on my knees, but I can do a lot more of them than I ever could before so I'm proud of that.
