What I eat part deux

I've done a "what I eat" post before, but things they are a-changin'. Getting healthy starts with what you put in your mouth. (heyo!) 

First, if it takes more than 10 minutes of prep, I'm probably not gonna make it. Ain't nobody got time fo' dat. (This is why I need someone who will cook for me. I'm currently taking applications. You must have a penis and look good without a shirt on. It's non-negotiable.) This is why I have to keep my fridge fully of easy, healthy snackaroos.

Laziness is part of why I got fatty mcfat. It's way easier and faster to go through the drive-thru than to make dinner. It's also way easier to sit on the couch than to get up and work off those donuts. However, if you don't eat donuts, McDonald's, etc, you don't have to worry about working them off. Work smarter, not harder, I say.

Getting healthy is 70/30. 70% what you eat and 30% exercise. I've also heard 80/20. Point is, what you eat matters. A lot. It doesn't have to be difficult, though. It just requires a wee bit of planning.

You don't have to be Martha Stewart to rock your shit in the kitchen. I cooked a whole lotta chicken sausage on Monday and now I'm eating it throughout the week. It's nice to be able to take something other than a sandwich or salad for lunch, too. Spinach quesadillas are awesome because they take 3 minutes to throw together and Mylo will eat them. Double win. 

Which brings me to my next point. Mylo sees me eating food and wants what I have. Monkey see, monkey do and all that. He's a berry and banana addict. And mangoes. Homeboy can TACKLE a muthafuckin' mango.


He puts chairs wherever he damn well pleases.


Berries are really good this time of year.
Plus, they're packed with antioxidants which are hella good for you.
Also, they're good to take to work because they're finger-food-fruits.

The other day I made him a grilled cheese and I had a stuffed bell pepper. Homeslice abandoned his grilled cheese and straight up hijacked my stuffed pepper. I had to make myself another one. It's cool, man. I'd much rather him eat healthy. (He's not always like that. He loves mac 'n cheese and will eat the shit out of a cupcake. He's a KID though. I'll take what I can get.)

Something I invented this last weekend: capreso. I ate it for lunch because I'm wild and crazy like that.

Mozzarella cheese with mango pineapple salsa.
It's an Italian/Latin hybrid.

It took me 30 seconds to spoon salsa on cheese, and BAM a new snack is born. It doesn't have to take forever or a million ingredients to make something magical.

Something I wasn't accustomed to before I worked for a big company: The amount of food that's always around. Damn son, do we HAVE to order dessert trays for every goddamn conference?

Food is fuel. It's what I tell myself every time my coworkers want to eat out somewhere. Instead of going with them, I eat my lunch that I brought. It's also cheaper that way. I'm a single mom up in here. Holla fo' a dollah.

Plus, I want to be able to spend calories when I go out with my friends. Vodka cranberries, anyone? I'm not Hitler about eating, just conscious of when I really want something as opposed to when I'm bored. 

I eat breakfast, snack, lunch, and another snack at work, and dinner at home. Breakfast is usually a banana or oatmeal and lunch is whatever I planned. I drink water all day except for a cup of coffee in the morning. I use the good liquid creamer in my coffee errrrday. SUE ME.

Yogurt, berries, and granola is one of my favorite treat-snacks.
It's sweet enough to conquer a craving, but still better for you than cake.
(This is almond milk in the picture. Also delish. Also better for you than cake.)

Snacks I take to work on the reg:

- NatureBox stuff, duh. Don't forget to enter the giveaway if you haven't already.
- Carrots and hummus. I buy the pre-packaged little cups of hummus. Same price as the big tub and way more manageable for me.
- Berries.
- Apple and pb yogurt dip. Equal parts crunchy pb and plain greek yogurt. Drizzle some honey and add cinnamon until it's delicious.
- String cheese.
- Mini Rice cakes. The sea salt and black pepper ones are mouthgasmic.
- Yogurt. Greek or otherwise. Come on, bro. Don't be a yogurt snob.
- Cottage cheese. 
- Banana and almond butter.

I'm no expert. This is just what I do to be my own version of healthy. I still drink dranks and eat food that's bad for me - just not daily.

  1. My Aunt told me once (and it's since become a thing with us) "If you were eating a shit sandwich, your kid would want a bite". And it's true. But of course it's better to do healthy stuff than shit..whether figurative or literal. lol
    When I was a workin' Ma, I was a sucker for the 'let's go to lunch' trap. Good for you for eating what you bring!

  2. Is it totally inappropriate to tell you I love you?? You seriously crack me up! You're the girl version of my nerd husband, only way funnier (shh, don't tell him I said that). I'm with you on quick and easy foods too. Whenever I entertain the idea of trying new recipes, I immediately rule out anything that has more than like 5 ingredients...lazy bum. I love your sweet little coffee mug!!

  3. I need to try the mozzarella, and can you tell me how you make the spinach quesadilla?? Wish my kids were better eaters! :( They used to be so good when they were smaller. Now, not so much!

  5. I love that fancy mozzarella. I'm a cheese snob, too. And I love almond butter! I like it with apples-but my fave is on triscuits.

  6. You gotta have the fancy coffee creamer in the morning. It's a must! Especially with the craptastic coffee that is provided here at work.

  7. I use the good fancy creamer too. Except I recently switched to the sugar free. Sometimes you gotta live on the wild side.

  9. These are great ideas. I like your sensible outlook on your food intake. I know how easy weight loss is I just need to do it. Work off more than you put in your pie-hole. I also have seen a trend that meal planning really does work. I'll be sure to incorporate some of your go-to snacks into my day.
