What I eat

I made a change over 2 years ago because I wanted to live my life. I felt fat and gross and yuck about myself, so I never wanted to do anything. Not a good look, bro.

Now? I feel good and I watch what I eat, but I still eat. That doesn't mean I'm uptight about it (I'm a little uptight about it). I realize it's probably confusing as fuck when I post mouthgasm cheeseburger pictures mixed in with meal planning and gym pictures. It's called balance and I haz it.

I had a love affair with that egg.
Short review - the bacon was PERFECT, but the burger as a whole was probably a 6.5.
It's from The Porch in Dallas.
Onward goes the quest for the best cheeseburger in Dallas.

I keep a general log of what I've eaten in my head. I don't count calories anymore, but I was religious about it when I started losing weight (MyFitnessPal - get it). If I know I'm gonna eat a cheeseburger later, I'll eat light throughout the day. If I know I'm gonna get schmammered on double vodka waters (those sneaky bastards), I won't be drinking the other nights of the week. Also, vodka water is a kick-ass low calorie drank for your sipping pleasure. Squirt yourself a lime in there, it's real nice. Real nice.

Anyway, a few of you have asked what I typically eat. I'm the laziest chef ever most efficient chef ever. I always cook a lot of something and then eat it throughout the week for lunch. Eating leftovers isn't an issue for me if it means I don't have to cook. A typical weekday of food goes something like this:

Breakfast: Maybe a smoothie or two quiche cups or some oatmeal. Definitely at least 6 cups of coffee. Okay, maybe 2. I pretty much always use flavored creamer and I always eat my breakfast at work.

Morning sniz-ack: A banana or hard-boiled egg. Sometimes if I'm feeling frisky I also eat almond butter.

Lunch: I eat my lunch while I'm working at my desk because I usually spend my "lunch hour" working out (not today though, I have to go get my car inspected because I got a muhfuggin' ticket for it being expired. *shakes fist at the man*). This week I have baked chicken with sweet potatoes and green beans and some sauteed veggies. I also have blackberries, a clementine and a hard boiled egg. At the store I buy whatever seasonal fruit is on sale so I can mix it up a little bit. Don't nobody want to eat oranges errrrrdamnday.

Get. In. Mah. Belleh.
Food that's good for you doesn't have to taste like ass.

Afternoon sniz-ack: Usually I try to eat something high protein since it's after my workout. Apple with peanut butter yogurt dip today, even though I'm not working out at lunch. The dip is packed with both protein and yum, and the apple will keep the doctor away. Excellent.

Dinner: Spaghetti squash with turkey sausage or maybe avocado. I haven't decided yet because I like to live my life on the edge. I also take vitamins with dinner - 1000mg of Vitamin C and a prenatal multivitamin every day. I'm not pregnant (and don't plan to be, knock on wood), you just get more bang for your buck with prenatals. I've been taking them since I was pregnant with my kiddo. I take the Vitamin C to boost my immune system. As a single parent, I can't afford to be sick. Ain't nobody got time fo' dat. I also take Vitamin D if I'm not outside enough, but I don't take that one every day.

After dinner: I try not to eat much after dinner, if anything. I've been having tea at night - Earl Grey, hot. Just kidding, Chamomile. (+10 if you got that reference.)

The key is to eat every couple of hours. I chew gum all day long, son. It helps curb sweet cravings, especially if you get the dessert-y flavors. I drink at least 64 ounces of water per day, usually more, and I can't remember the last time I had a coke (that's all soft drinks if you don't speak fluent Texan). I pee every hour, on the hour.

Sundays I always make a lot of something and portion it out for the week. It's pretty awesome because my weeks explode with ALL the busy things and I just don't have time to cook every night. This way, I'll probably cook something tonight (spaghetti squash), and then I'll have lunch and dinner for the whole week donezo. Boom, nailed it.

The innards of my fridge. Alllll the tupperware.
This was before I portioned out my lunches, so it's even more tupperware-y now.
Hey, looks like it's beer o'clock. Whaddaya know.

If I don't make sure I have healthy options in my fridge that are just as easy to grab as the unhealthy options, then I will eat shit. (Not literally. Ew.) It's all about planning. Fail to plan, plan to fail. I'll post my easy recipes tomorrow or Wednesday. You know they're solid because I'm not about to spend an hour in the kitchen at night when I have the coolest 2 year old in the world to play with. They're easy, quick and mostly healthy.

Having said all that, I do still eat cheeseburgers and pizza. I still go out drinking. I go to Starbucks. I eat cake. I shoot for balance because food is delicious, lezbehonest.

  1. Just wanted to thank you for the awesome post. Struggling with what to eat that doesn't leave me hangry! Also hate spending tons of time in the kitchen plus my 3 yr old really isn't having that.

  6. Currently I'm trying a nondiet diet wherein I try to eat healthy (duh) and not track anything. I don't know if it's going to work or not. I may have to go back to counting calories or points or whatevs. I just got soooooooooooooooooo sick of it. It seems like you have a great balance going! And a bangin' body too. :)
