DIY Message in a Bottle Invitations

Y'all, I'm planning a beach/luau themed pool party for a soon to be 10 year old and I might be the most excited person in our house. Not to toot my own horn, but party planning is kinda my thing I'm good at, along with eating Chipotle, sarcastic comments and humility.

Here's a sneak peek of some party deets, first and foremost - message in a bottle invitations.

The rad thing is that you can mail these! We didn't since she just passed them out at school, but pretty neat that you can!

To make them, you'll need:
- This invitation template from Shop Nerky on Etsy
- These plastic bottles with corks - corks are imperative for the "message in a bottle" feel
- These sea shells - unless you already have some. I had to buy shells since I'm landlocked like a chump.
- These pearl-esque beads
- Sand from Home Depot
- String I already had

Print your invitation on regular glossy paper and wrap it around a pencil to roll it super tight. Tie it with string, then use a hole punch to punch a hole in the corner of the top so you can tie another piece of string to the end - I have this tiny hole punch. Make the string long enough so that it hangs outside the bottle - this will make the invitation easy to get out so they don't have to pour out all the sand.

Sand is earth glitter, am I right? It. Gets. Everywhere.

Fill your bottle with a little bit of sand - make sure it's dry! The bag I bought had some moisture in it, so I poured some out in the sun and let it sit to dry out. Add a pearl and a shell, then stick your invitation in, holding on to the string. Plug it with the cork and you're done!

Perfect, simple message in a bottle invitations. How perfect would these be for your summer party? Almost TOO perfect. Almost.
